The Apron Book – Making, Wearing and Sharing a Bit of Cloth and Comfort
EllynAnne Geisel
ISBN: 0740761811
This book is truly a gem! EllynAnne Geisel has compiled a light and easy to read history of the once
indispensable piece of a woman’s wardrobe – the apron. Also sprinkled throughout the book are
personal accounts and memories as well as cooking and cleaning tips she has collected from those
who remember aprons well including grandmothers and grown children. And finally, as icing on the
cake, she has also included 3 patterns for making your own aprons and several ideas on how to
embellish and personalize them. Though Geisel keeps the instructions for these aprons very simple,
some basic knowledge of sewing and using a sewing machine would be helpful.
The Apron Book will make for some wonderful parent-child moments (Yes, there are also stories of
young men and fathers!) as you forget the iPods for a while and get back to basics; especially if you have
a youngster interested in learning to sew. The Apron Book will also make a great gift for anyone with
vintage tastes or nostalgia for the times when a woman wouldn't be caught dead without her apron on!
